What’s actually in our family camp kitchen
Pancakes for four before the lake warms up. The short list of kitchen gear that earns its spot, and what we stopped packing.

Quick take
Two burners, one heavy pan, enamel everything, and one big bowl. Feeding kids outside is about fewer things that each do more.
Good for
- Families camping with kids
- Anyone building their first camp kitchen box
Skip it if
- Ultralight backpackers
The rule
If it doesn’t get used every trip, it doesn’t come. Everything lives in one box so packing takes five minutes.
What stays
A two-burner stove so breakfast and coffee happen at the same time. One cast iron pan that handles pancakes, eggs and dinner. Enamel mugs and plates that survive being dropped by kids. One big mixing bowl that doubles as the wash basin.
What we stopped packing
Single-use gadgets, extra pots, and anything with a cord. They took up room and came home clean.
